MBABANE – Civil servants will start receiving their December salaries on the 17th.

What is so special about the upcoming remunerations is that they will come with a one per cent once-off annual ‘sweetener’ christened early Christmas gift.

In fact, government had intended to pay salaries earlier but due to delays by the Ministry of Health, the pay dates had to be pushed to the 17th.

Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg confirmed that public servants must start expecting incontact messages next Tuesday.

“We are pushing for the 17th,” he said.

Meanwhile, our reliable sources have explained that the Ministry of Health is still working hard on submitting on-call allowances for doctors, which has resulted in the delay.

In 2023, civil servants received their December salaries on the 15th. In fact, they are usually paid from the 20th to the 23rd of every month.

Last year, the Ministry of Finance said the early payment of salaries was done to allow them to shop early for the festive season.
