MBABANE – Consumers in Eswatini are in an opportunity to win hampers worth E5 000, courtesy of an agency known as A Peculiar People.

A Peculiar People is the Agency behind Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards. According to a statement released by A Peculiar People Chairman Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini, this initiative is meant to celebrate Eswatini’s homegrown products.

According to the statement, A Peculiar People has invited consumers to choose products made in Eswatini for their Christmas shopping and stand a chance to take home a local product gift hamper. The hamper, according to the statement, has products from the winners of inaugural Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards and is worth E5 000.

The Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards was held during the Eswatini International Trade Fair 2024 and was graced by HRH Princess Sakhizwe and Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Manqoba Khumalo. The winning brands include Black Mamba, Emlembe Beverages, Scoops N’ Giggles, Go Raw Juices, Nhlonipo Juice, Imbali Gin, Shelela Gin, Baobab Batik, Teddz Urban Wear, Silverstone Lodge, Luna Hair and Body, My Coils, Mongi Botanicals, Khokho Collection, Adorable Accessories, Milo’s Ice Cream and Explorers Smash Burgers.

“To enter, consumers will simply need to purchase a local product of their choice and then share proof, by posting a photo of themselves with the product on Instagram and Facebook. To increase their visibilty chances, they are encouraged to tag @eswatiniconsumerchoice2024 on Instagram and A Peculiar Peoples Person on Facebook with the hashtag #madeineswatini. This social media campaign will run until the 22nd of December 2024 and the winner will be announced on the 23rd of December 2024,” said part of the statement.

This campaign, according to the statement, is more than just an opportunity to win a festive gift hamper – it is a call to action to help drive local product sales and bolster Eswatini’s economy during the holiday season. By supporting local businesses, consumers contribute directly to the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), creating a ripple effect that strengthens our community economics. An increase in local spending will enable local businesses to reinvest in their operations, boost local production, and create more jobs. This holiday season, every purchase made in support of local businesses will ensure that more of Eswatini’s wealth stays within its borders.
