MBABANE – The stage is set for Young Buffaloes Ladies team to continue writing history when they face South Africa’s University of the Western Cape in the CAF Women’s Champions League/ COSAFA Qualifier semi-finals in Malawi.
The match is expected to kick-off at 3pm.
The army side that have made the country proud will play in the second semi-finals as the duo of Gaborone United Ladies and Herentals Queens face-off in the first semi-finals at noon, with the winners set for the finals on Saturday (August 24, 2024).
Buffaloes Coach Fisiwe Hlophe said despite the achievement of reaching the semi-finals and winning a match for the first time in the tournament, there was still lot of work to be done to achieve big.
Buffaloes are appearing for the third time in the tournament and they recorded their first victory against Mozambique side Luchinga who they beat 4-0 to reach the semi-finals stage. Hlophe said she was expecting her players not to be too excited as there is still a lot to be done.
Buffaloes will be hoping for more goals after scoring four in their last match taking their tally in the tournament to six goals. Siphiliswe Ndlovu is the current leading top goal score in the tournament with three goals after the heroics hat trick on Tuesday in the last group math against the Mozambican side.
Meanwhile, the University of the Western Cape Ladies team also known as UWC Ladies F.C. is the women’s football club representing the University of the Western Cape based in Bellville, Western Cape.
The senior team competes in the SAFA Women’s League, the top tier women’s football league in South Africa.
