MBABANE– In a world where obstacles can easily define someone, Mlazer R is a shining example of resilience and determination.

Living with a disability and hailing from Motshane, Mlazer R (born Mlandvo Shongwe) has refused to let situations suppress him as he pursues his goals with passion and purpose.
The 26-year-old motivational speaker, artist, poet, and aspiring journalist uses his talent to inspire others and spread messages of hope and perseverance.

Speaking to this publication, Shongwe emphasised the importance of not letting one’s situation define them. “A situation is just a situation,” he said, urging people to use their circumstances as an opportunity to shine.
He is the last born from three children. He completed high school at St. Marks and is now furthering his education at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, where he is studying Journalism and Media.
Despite the struggles and challenges he faces as a musician, he remains strong, using his talents to inspire others and make a positive impact on his community.
Shongwe’s journey as an artist began in March 2020 when he released ‘Confessions,’ a song that addressed the lack of support for local artists in the industry. Later that year, in November, he released ‘Holy Spirit,’ continuing to use his music as a vehicle for self-expression and social commentary.

Currently, he is preparing for the release of ‘Inhlupheko,’ visuals that will be dropped on August 16, 2024, on YouTube.
The artist reveals the inspiration behind the song, which draws on childhood experiences growing up.
He hopes to shed light on the issues facing his community and inspire change. However, the young artist still struggles to find bookings for performances.
