MBABANE – In a touching display of hope, resilience, and empowerment, five young women took a bold step into the future—armed with skills, courage, and a powerful support system.
At the heart of it all was Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla, whose unwavering commitment to uplifting youth from vulnerable backgrounds shone brightly during a celebratory handover ceremony held at her offices.
These five trailblazers, hailing from child-headed households, were honoured for completing life-changing skills development programmes in hairdressing, nail technology, and catering. But the celebration wasn’t just about certificates—it was about launching dreams. Each graduate received a fully equipped start-up kit, a practical springboard to help them build their businesses and craft independent, dignified lives.
Adding a modern touch to the empowerment initiative, MTN Fintech partnered with the DPM’s Office to provide smartphones to the graduates. “These smartphones are not just devices; they are tools for growth and a connection to the digital world,” said DPM Dladla, radiating optimism. MTN Fintech CEO Mr. Shongwe echoed this, highlighting the company’s mission to uplift communities and connect EmaSwati to digital opportunities.
DPM Dladla’s speech captured the spirit of the event. “These kits represent your first step toward independence and self-reliance. They are the foundation upon which your dreams will be built,” she said with warmth and pride. Her words served not only as encouragement but as a powerful reminder that dreams, when nurtured, can change lives.
Among the beaming beneficiaries were:
- Noxolo Mabuza, Cebile Ndwandwe, and Gcinile Masuku – trained in the art of hairdressing,
- Tema Mkhabela – a passionate caterer, and
- Nontsikelelo Zikalala – a creative nail technician.
Each of them expressed heartfelt thanks to DPM Dladla and MTN Fintech for believing in their potential and providing the tools to chase their ambitions. Their smiles spoke volumes—proof that support, no matter how small it may seem, can spark a ripple of transformation.
As they return to their communities, these young women carry not just kits and phones, but the hopes of a brighter, self-made future. DPM Dladla encouraged them to remain focused, be agents of change, and inspire others by example.
With leaders like DPM Dladla and partners like MTN Fintech paving the way, Eswatini’s future looks even more promising—one empowered young woman at a time.
