LOMAHASHA – The  Deputy Prime Minister Senator Thulisile Dladla, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, officially handed over four newly constructed houses to vulnerable households in Lomahasha Inkhundla on August 28,2025. The event marked a major step in restoring dignity to families whose homes were destroyed by last year’s devastating storms.

Accompanied by Member of Parliament Zanele Mashaba and National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) Chief Executive Officer Victor Mahlalela, Senator Dladla commended NDMA for its swift response and commitment to ensuring no family is left without shelter. She also announced plans to build two more houses in the constituency for other households in dire need.

The beneficiaries included families who had already moved into the houses ahead of the ceremony due to the urgent need for shelter.

THE FOUR BENEFICIARY FAMILIES

Ntombi Mahlalela from Lomahasha at  Ngulubeni lost her one-room stick-and-mud house during the storm. She now lives in her new home with her children and grandchildren. “My family finally feels safe after the collapse of our old house,” she said, expressing heartfelt gratitude.

Tholakele Fundzama from Lomahasha at  Malayinini who cares for eight children and grandchildren, was moved to tears during the handover. Singing Umus’ongaka, a hymn of thanksgiving, she said it was by grace that her family was chosen.

Janet Langa from Lomahasha at Msengeni granddaughter of the late Gogo Cecelia Mbatha – Mahlalela  received the third house in memory of her grandmother, whom she cared for until her passing.

Fodo Sifundza at Shewula  Majembeni sister to the late Mphini Sifundza, now resides in the fourth house. Senator Dladla pledged to assist her in accessing medical care due to her ailing health.

The Deputy Prime Senator Thulisile Dladla strongly urged children to respect and care for their parents and grandparents. She condemned cases where elders are neglected or even evicted from their homes, emphasizing that such behavior undermines traditional family values.

“These homes are not just structures, they are a symbol of care, compassion, and the unshakable commitment of His Majesty’s Government to protect its people,” she said.

Lomahasha Member of Parliament Zanele Masilela-Mashaba said the need for assistance in Lomahasha Inkhundla is overwhelming, noting that she receives numerous calls from residents seeking help. She expressed gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister for making the visit possible, describing it as a true blessing for the community.

The houses were constructed by the National Disaster Management Agency, whose work has been pivotal in rebuilding communities affected by natural disasters.
