MBABANE – Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has today brought smiles to a school and six Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) when it donated to them a sum of E534 774.
The EEC’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative took place today (Tuesday, August 13, 2024) at EEC Headquarters (Eluvatsini House) in Mbabane. Mphelandzaba High School was one of the organisations that were at the receiving end of EEC’s kind gesture.
The Lubombo-based school got a lion’s share of the donation, which is E154 774. Organisations such as Enactus and Junior Achievement (JA) Eswatini got E70 000 each. SOS Children’s Village, Cheshire Homes, Hope House, and Eswatini Breast and Cervical Cancer Network (EBCCN) each got E60 000.
EEC Managing Director (MD) Ernest Mkhonta congratulated the organisations for being able to receive the donations from the country’s power producer. Mkhonta said these organisations were chosen because they were seen to be doing for the nation. He said blessed was the hand that giveth than the one that taketh.
By so saying, Mkhonta did not mean that it was only the EEC that was giving at that particular moment. However, he described the organisations donated to as the ones that were also givers in the work that they did in communities. He said EEC received about a thousand of sponsorship request from organisations that wanted to partner with it.
However, Mkhonta said it was unfortunate that they did not have enough resources to respond to all of the requests. He mentioned that what they did today was simply because they, as a company, wanted to contribute positively in terms of social responsibility.
