MBABANE – Anyone wishing to enroll for studies with Emlalatini Development Centre in Ezulwini is encouraged to go to Manzini, where discussions on this matter will take place at length.

Nontsikelelo Tfwala, the Communications Officer at Emlalatini Development Centre, stated on February 18, 2025 that her institution continues to demonstrate excellence in open distance learning, achieving good results with its Form V class of 2024, almost similar to those achieved in 2023.

The number of credits improved from 69 in 2023 to 184 in 2024. This is an indication that online learning is a viable alternative to classroom education for out-of-school children and youth, pregnant women and young girls, and working adults.

EDC is different in that a learner can take 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 subjects to promote flexible learning.

We look at results in terms of the number of credits. If the number of credits increased that means EDC provides quality online learning.

Most learners fail because the digital divide caused by the lack of a smartphone, poor Internet connectivity or lack of data bundles.

EDC offers online Forms 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 classes and upgrading services as well.

In 2024 Form V examinations, the institution produced one A*, one A, 19 Bs, and 41 Cs. In the Form V examinations of 2023, the centre produced no A*, three As, 40 Bs, and 140 Cs. Failures were there, but she could not give much details on them, stating that they were ready to give another opportunities to them so that they could try one more time.

Tfwala noted that the centre’s innovative blended learning approach, which combines online systems with flexible study options, has led to improved academic performance.

She mentioned, “Our modern learning platform enables students to access quality education at their own pace, making it ideal for those balancing other commitments. The successful results of our 2024 class showcase the effectiveness of our teaching methods and dedicated support system.”
