MBABANE – Eswatini’s economic resilience is being bolstered by the exceptional work of the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS), which has met tax collection targets for the year.
Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg commended the ERS for its innovative approach, emphasizing the critical role of efficient tax systems in achieving national goals.
“Tax collection is a cornerstone of our economic stability, and ERS is ensuring we meet our objectives while maintaining fairness and transparency,” Rijkenberg said. “Their efforts are driving positive change, ensuring that resources are available to fund essential services.”
The ERS has adopted a strategy focused on broadening the tax base, targeting entities that have historically evaded compliance. By making tax systems more inclusive and accessible, the ERS is fostering a culture of accountability and fairness.
Rijkenberg also highlighted the government’s commitment to avoiding tax increases for citizens. “We are working to ease the burden on taxpayers while ensuring everyone contributes their fair share. This is essential for fostering trust and creating a more equitable society,” he explained.
With SACU revenues projected to decline, the minister emphasized the importance of domestic revenue growth. “Our focus on improving tax collection is part of a larger strategy to build a self-reliant economy, reduce dependence on external sources, and ensure long-term stability,” he added.
As Eswatini continues to face economic challenges, the ERS’s performance and the government’s commitment to fiscal sustainability offer a positive outlook for the nation’s financial future.
