MBABANE – It was an impressing outing for local athletes as they hoisted the country’s flag high in Lesotho National Games held over the weekend in Maseru.
The locals that included boxing, athletics, taekwondo and teqball dominated the podium, snatching medals. They competed against athletes coming from countries including Lesotho, Zambia, South Africa, Namibia and Angola among others.
In athletics, female’s category, Lihle Simelane bags gold in the 400m while Nokwethu Simelane gave a stellar performance and attained 4th position in both the 1500m and 3000m. In the males section, the lads made it through to the finals of the 100m where they got 4th and 6th position respectively, according to the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA).
In teqball, Prince Mokoena clinches gold in the finals in singles. In taekwondo, Hlelo Vilakati fights back to clinch gold for the country.
Eswatini added two more medals as boxers, Sincumo Mkhonta and Lihle Sithole bag Gold and silver in their respective bouts. Boxing Coach Nathi Dlamini was impressed with all his boxers’ performances citing that such games were the perfect gauge for his boxers.
Eswatini got invited to the games after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between EOCGA and the Lesotho National Olympic Committee.
