MBABANE – Eswatini is still on the right track when it comes to the implementation of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This transpired during a meeting held at The George Hotel in Manzini, which was held by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development. However, Eswatini has been advised to work harder because there were many things that the country still needed to do.

UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Dr Nessie Golakai Gould mentioned that the SDGs had to be fully met by 2030. Because of that, Dr Nessie called upon all Emaswati to each play their role in making sure that the SDGs are fully implemented. What is good about Eswatini, according to Dr Nessie, is that the country is among seven countries that have submitted their SDGs progress reports to the UN, out of 39 other countries that have not done so. She said what was important was to ensure that no one was left behind in terms of development.

Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Thabsile Mlangeni said the meeting was important because it tracked the progress made by the country concerning the implementation of the SDGs. Mlangeni said the issue of SDGs was very important because it cut across all Government Ministries, as each and every one of them were directly linked with either one or several of the 17 SDGs.
Mlangeni further mentioned that Eswatini had already submitted three reports to the UN about its progress on the SDGs, something that the PS described as a milestone achievement.
The 17 SDGs are structured around the five pillars of the 2030 Agenda: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships. These 5 Ps highlight how the SDGs are an intertwined framework instead of a group of solo goals.
