MBABANE – Eswatini Railways has called upon all Ses’khona Tourist Train trip ticket holders to contact their office for their refunds.

This follows the cancellation of the planned trip to Mozambique scheduled for next weekend from November 29 to December 1, due to the escalating political unrest which has seen properties being damaged and torched down with fire.

Through a press statement released by the CEO Nixon Dlamini, Eswatini Railways regretted any inconvenience caused by their decision.

“This unfortunate decision comes after careful consideration of the current social and political unrest in Mozambique, Maputo, which is the intended destination for the train. The situation has raised serious safety and security concerns to warrant us to continue and undertake the trip,” reads part of the statement.

It is reported that rumours that the tourist train trip would not take place due to the unstable political situation the Republic country, began to circulate a couple of weeks ago. Even though the cancellation of the trip has left a trail of disappointed clients, most people were consoled by the fact that the Eswatini Railways had assured them that they would be refunded.

In continuation, the statement also notes that the parastatal company had been closely monitoring the developments with the hope that the situation would normalize, “But it has continued and there is no guarantee that it will dissipate anytime soon,”.

Meanwhile, the statement revealed that tourists who had made payment for the trip would be refunded within 48 hours after the release of press statement.
