MBABANE – Eswatini’s commitment to eradicating HIV/AIDS remains unwavering, even in the face of the temporary pause in funding from the United States’ PEPFAR program.
The Ministry of Health has reassured the nation that despite the funding suspension, government has plans in place to sustain vital HIV and TB programs. Eswatini has already achieved significant milestones, including meeting the 95-95-95 targets ahead of the 2030 deadline, and efforts to maintain these gains continue.
“Government has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that ARVs remain available for all who need them. Plans to secure uninterrupted supplies for children are already in motion,” the Ministry stated.
Furthermore, the recent launch of the HIV/AIDS Sustainability Roadmap in December 2024 is set to guide Eswatini in minimizing reliance on external funding, ensuring a more self-sufficient health system in the long run.
With optimism that the 90-day review will result in the reinstatement of US funding, the Ministry remains focused on strengthening partnerships and implementing strategic solutions to keep Eswatini’s progress on track.
