MBABANE – If things go according to plan, Eswatini will soon become one of the high income countries of the world.
This is according to the Government Policy Statement for the 12th Government (2023 to 2028). The statement was delivered by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini. Following the delivery of the statement, Government has now decided to unpack the policy statement so that members of the public can easily understand what Government wants to do to develop the lives of Emaswati.
The unpacking of the statement, according to Government, will be done in the next coming days, starting with the overview of the strategic direction. It is in that strategic direction where Government has stated that it will move Eswatini from being a lower-middle income country to be a high income country. However, Government has not stated the time it will need to make this transformation. However, it is important to note that in the Government Policy Statement, the prime minister did state that Government wanted to make Eswatini a first world country by 2030. Government will also focus on a few priorities through sustainable and integrated approach.
Another way to improve the country’s income status for Government is to pursue an Economic Transformation Strategy, focused on fostering sustainable economic growth, eradicating poverty, strengthening the country’s health systems, and ensuring transparency and accountability in governance.
According to the strategic direction, Government has charted a policy framework to create and support an environment that will create mega investments, promote innovation, and foster exponential economic growth with an intention to transform the nation into a thriving, prosperous, and equitable society where every citizen has access to economic opportunities and quality health care.
Emaswati and the Government they elected, according to the strategic direction, will chart their own path and take a focused approach, finding home-grown solutions, with the interests of the country and its people at heart.
