MBABANE – The Eswatini Women’s National Cricket Team is showing unwavering determination and national pride as they battle it out at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Gaborone. While the results may not reflect the outcome they had hoped for, their performances on the field speak volumes about their courage, passion, and fighting spirit.
The team opened their campaign with a challenging encounter against tournament hosts Botswana. Despite putting up a spirited effort, the squad faced a heavy loss, going down by 111 runs. The match served as a tough welcome to the competition, highlighting the level of play and the challenges that lie ahead. But the Eswatini women were far from discouraged.

In their second match against Sierra Leone, the ladies came out stronger, hungry to make a statement. After winning the toss, Eswatini made a bold move by choosing to bowl first. Sierra Leone, however, responded with a strong batting performance, posting a total of 190/6. Chasing the big target, Eswatini’s batters fought hard despite a tight bowling attack from Sierra Leone. The team finished the innings at 41/8, but not without moments of brilliance.
One of the standout performances came from Nothando Mabila, who displayed exceptional composure and determination, scoring 20 runs off just 18 balls. Her contribution not only stood out on the scoreboard but also inspired confidence in the team’s ability to rise under pressure. It was a courageous knock that embodied the fighting spirit of the entire squad.

Though the team is still searching for its first win, their passion and perseverance are clear. With each match, they are gaining valuable experience and learning important lessons that will shape the future of women’s cricket in Eswatini. The players have remained positive and motivated, representing the country with dignity and pride.
Eswatini’s next match is set for tomorrow morning against Mozambique, and the team is more determined than ever to claim their first victory in the tournament. As they take to the field once again, they carry not just their hopes, but the hopes of a nation proud to see its daughters compete on an international stage.
