MBABANE – The Eswatini Women’s Football Association has taken a stand in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) by organizing a women’s football tournament to raise awareness about the issue.
The tournament will be held on January 4, 2025, at Msunduza Sports Ground in Mbabane, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 AM. Four teams from the Women’s Football League, Sidvwashini United, Green Mamba, Nsingizini Hotspurs, and Young Buffaloes—will compete in a knockout format.
In a statement, the Women’s Football Association emphasized the purpose of the event:
“The Women’s Football Association will host a knockout tournament to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence on January 4, 2025, at Msunduza Sports Ground. We call on all supporters and stakeholders to come out in numbers to support this initiative and cheer for the girls showcasing their skills on the field.”
The draw for the fixtures is yet to be conducted, but the action is guaranteed to begin with the first match at 9:00 AM.
Eswatini continues to face alarming rates of violence against women and girls, with GBV cases increasing significantly in recent years. This tournament aims not only to promote women’s football but also to highlight and address this growing concern in the country.
