MBABANE – This year’s Correctional Services Day seems to be different, as His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) will give ex-inmates an opportunity to tell the nation how this institution has transformed them from being offenders to becoming better citizens of Eswatini.

The Correctional Services Day will be held this coming Friday (June 20, 2025) at the Staff College in Matsapha. The event is expected to be graced by the presence of Their Majesties. Members of the Public are invited to be part of this event by HMCS Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini. The members of the public have been promised to witness various works that have been done by the Department through exhibition. The HMCS will be celebrating 30 years since being converted from prisons to correctional services.

On June 17, 2025, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane, who is the minister responsible for HMCS, also assured the nation that they would be satisfied and happy with what they would be witnessing on the day. He said this at the same venue when witnessing the last rehearsals of the Correctional Services Day.

Prince Simelane was impressed by what he saw during the rehearsals. He said he wished not to go anywhere from the college, because of the impression he had. He had no doubt that members of the public would not want to go after the event. Commissioner General LaMakhosini Dlamini thanked the correctional officers for the commitment they had shown during the rehearsals.

Dlamini said this showed that the work they were doing was all about them, as they did this for Their Majesties and Emaswati. She said Their Majesties visited them once a year and it was usually during the Correctional Services Day. They had to make sure that they left the place having been impressed by what they saw from the correctional officers.
