MBABANE – Entrepreneurs in Eswatini have been challenged to take the driver’s seat in growing their businesses, with the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EYA) 2025 now officially open for entries.
At stake is not just national recognition, but a brand-new car and significant seed capital to fuel the journey of a deserving business.
Organised by the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO), the competition is open to Emaswati-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), in line with the Eswatini MSME Policy. National winners from previous years are, however, not eligible to re-enter.
This year’s awards, themed around nurturing future growth, were officially launched earlier this month at the Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini.
The event marked the beginning of the 19th edition of the competition and was graced by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Mancoba Khumalo, who applauded SEDCO and its partners for empowering local entrepreneurs.
Also in attendance were representatives from the main sponsor FNB Eswatini, supporting sponsors, key stakeholders in the MSME sector, and SEDCO as the host institution.
Speaking on behalf of SEDCO, Communications Officer Khetsiwe Mhlanga said this year’s edition comes with a strong incentive, a fully branded double-cab bakkie, to inspire participation and reward business excellence.
“This is not just a recognition initiative, it’s a car competition that gives entrepreneurs a practical boost to keep moving forward,” she explained. “The vehicle prize represents the journey of growth, and we’re excited to see which business will drive away with it.”
Mhlanga said SEDCO is calling on entrepreneurs across the country to take advantage of the opportunity. “Whether you’re a farmer, a fashion designer, or run a tech-based service, if your business is Emaswati-owned and aligns with our MSME policy, we’re urging you to apply. This could be your year,” she said.
She emphasized the importance of providing accurate business details, as supporting documents may be requested. “Failure to comply may result in disqualification, and all submitted information remains confidential and property of SEDCO,” she added.
SEDCO highlighted that the competition is backed by a strong network of sponsors, including FNB Eswatini Foundation, Inyatsi Construction, Eswatini TV, FINCORP, Tibiyo Taka Ngwane, and others. Together, they aim to empower local enterprises and showcase the resilience and innovation of Eswatini’s entrepreneurs.
