MBABANE– The football community has been plunged into mourning following the sudden and untimely passing of officiating personnel, Mr. Nkululeko Hadzebe, who collapsed during a match at Zakhele Sports Ground on Wednesday and later passed away.
According to a statement issued by the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA), Hadzebe breathed his last at 6:00 am on Thursday morning at Nazarene Hospital, a day after the tragic incident on the field. His passing was confirmed by his father.
MRFA Acting COO, Mr. P. Mtsetfwa, expressed the association’s grief, noting the unprecedented nature of the tragedy. “It is with profound sorrow and shock that we regret to inform you of the untimely passing of our esteemed officiating personnel, Mr. Nkululeko Hadzebe. He departed this life earlier today at 6:00 am at the Nazarene Hospital, following a sudden and unforeseen collapse on the field of play yesterday at Zakhele Sports Ground,” Mtsetfwa said.
The MRFA extended condolences to the family of the late official. “This tragic event has left us deeply distressed, given the unprecedented nature of his collapse. We extend our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.
Funeral details are yet to be announced, as the family finalizes arrangements. In the meantime, MRFA has urged the football fraternity to honour Hadzebe’s memory. “We humbly request that we collectively pay our respects to Mr. Hadzebe’s memory and offer prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. May his legacy be celebrated and his soul rest in peace,” Mtsetfwa added.
The late Mr. Hadzebe will be remembered not only for his commitment to the game but also for his service to the development of football in the region.
