MBABANE- The much-anticipated 3rd Edition of the GBV One-Day Tournament was officially launched today, marking another significant step in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). This year’s tournament is scheduled to take place on 17 August 2024 at the iconic Lynville Stadium in Witbank, South Africa.
This powerful initiative continues to leverage the universal language of football as a tool for unity, education, and social change. By bringing communities together on the pitch, the tournament aims to raise awareness about GBV and promote a culture of respect and equality.
Past Champions and Legacy
The tournament has already made a remarkable impact in its previous editions. The inaugural event saw the Mbabane Swallows crowned as champions, followed by the Nsingizini Hotspurs taking the title in the second edition. These victories have helped cement the tournament’s reputation as a competitive and meaningful platform for change.

Tournament Ambassador
Adding star power and inspiration to the event is Eswatini football legend Dennis “Yuki” Masina, who has been named the official Tournament Ambassador. Masina’s involvement underscores the tournament’s commitment to using influential figures to amplify the message against GBV and inspire young athletes and fans alike.
Participating Teams
The 2024 tournament will feature a dynamic lineup of teams from South Africa and Eswatini, including:
– Malanti Chiefs (Eswatini)
– Tambankulu Celtics (Eswatini)
– TUT eMalahleni (South Africa)
– Phezulu FC (South Africa)
These teams will compete not only for the trophy but also to champion the cause of ending gender-based violence in their communities.
A Call to Action
As the countdown begins, organizers emphasize the tournament’s slogan, “Football with purpose Together, we stand against GBV.” The event promises to be more than just a sporting spectacle it is a rallying cry for social transformation through sport.
