The Gender in Energy Awards aim to recognise and celebrate organisations that have supported the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy’s interventions to promote the participation of women and girls in the energy sector. This inaugural event will not only highlight the contributions of various companies but also foster partnerships that advance gender equality within Eswatini’s energy landscape.
Sikelela Khoza, Communications Officer at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, emphasised the significance of the awards, stating, “This initiative is a crucial step in acknowledging and encouraging organisations that actively create opportunities for women and girls in the energy sector. It is about ensuring that gender inclusion becomes a fundamental principle in the industry.”
Khoza also noted that, so far, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a key partner in this initiative. The Platinum sponsors include Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) and Standard Bank, while the Gold sponsor is Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA). Additionally, more partners are showing interest and coming on board to support this groundbreaking initiative.
The Gender in Energy Awards are designed to:
- Acknowledge companies that have supported gender-inclusive job shadowing, internships, and career fairs.
- Promote best practices for gender equality in the energy sector.
- Encourage women’s participation in technical and leadership roles.
- Launch a magazine dedicated to women in energy.

The Gender in Energy Awards will feature:
- Awards Ceremony: Recognising outstanding contributions to gender equality in the energy sector. Companies and organisations will be awarded based on their participation in job shadowing, STEM career bootcamps, and internship programs.
