MBABANE – Minister of Housing and Urban Development Appolo Maphalala has overseen the re-launch of the Chartered Institute of Government Finance Audit and Risk Officers (CIGFARO).

The launch took place today (Friday, August 16, 2024) at Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini. During the re-launch, the minister engaged with the newly appointed CIGFARO President Dr. Emmanuel Ngcobo and other members of the institute.

The institute serves as a reputable professional body for individuals working in finance, audit, risk management, performance management, and related fields within the public sector.

During the re-launch at Happy Valley, Minister Maphalala emphasised the importance of utilising public resources efficiently on beneficial projects that would have a lasting positive impact on Emaswati, including future generations.

In his address, the minister urged the financial sector involved in public management to focus on implementing strong legislations that promote creativity and responsible financial practices, rather than burdening taxpayers with unnecessary financial demands.

He highlighted the pivotal role of the public management financial sector in addressing the challenges faced by the nation, stressing that prudent financial management is key to enhancing public amenities and ultimately serving the needs of the emaSwati community effectively.

Furthermore, the minister underscored the significance of prioritising public services over personal gain, stating that every unit of currency diverted from public funds diminishes the quality and availability of essential services required by the public.

Established in 1929, CIGFARO is committed to establishing and upholding exceptional standards of professionalism among its members. The institute provides a structured platform for practitioners to collaboratively enhance and sustain sound financial management practices and good governance within the sphere of public finances.
