MBABANE – Eswatini Government has been able to increase access to tertiary education for Emaswati this year.

This was said today, Friday, December 27, 2024 by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini. The prime minister said this when he delivered Government’s Performance Progress Report at Private and Cabinet Offices in Mbabane.

“In response to the concerns raised during the Sibaya submissions in relation to the quality of education, Government set up two task teams to revitalise UNESWA and also improve the quality of education in the country. The task teams have completed their reports for Cabinet consideration and implementation,” Dlamini said.

He said the Ministry of Education was tasked with developing a national curriculum to promote patriotism and inculcate a culture of excellence. The curriculum had been developed and was ready for consideration by Cabinet.

The prime minister said Etjendlovu High School was expanded to include vocational subjects such as Design and Technology, as well as a computer laboratory and introduction of agriculture as a subject. The school was officially launched by His Majesty the King.

The prime minister also emphasised Government’s commitment on education by charging the Ministry of Education and Training with the responsibility of improving schools that have challenges in producing the minimum national pass rate.

On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, Dlamini praised all those who made the Eswatini Primary Certificate (EPC) and the Junior Certificate (JC) examinations a success. However, the PM expressed concerns about schools that failed to produce a national minimum pass rate.

Dlamini said this hindered other Eswatini children from accessing quality education. It was for this reason why the Cabinet ministers, under the PM’s leadership, tasked the Education Ministry with this responsibility.
