…. Government calls for calm and hygiene as mild skin condition affects children in Hhohho, Manzini

MBABANE – In a strong demonstration of vigilance and care, the Ministry of Health has swiftly activated public health measures following a rise in cases of a mild, unidentified viral skin infection affecting young children across some regions of Eswatini.
Primarily seen in infants and children under ten, the skin condition has been reported in several health facilities and schools, particularly in the Hhohho and Manzini regions. Encouragingly, health officials have confirmed that the majority of these cases are mild and are resolving without complications.
The Ministry, through its surveillance systems, is closely monitoring the situation and has already collected patient samples for advanced laboratory testing. While the cause of the infection is still under investigation, symptoms have included fever, sore throat, fatigue, loss of appetite, and small red blisters on hands, feet, and inside the mouth.
In the spirit of proactive healthcare, the Ministry has rolled out a series of measures to contain the spread. These include enhanced disease surveillance, public health education campaigns, and hygiene guidance for schools and early childhood care centres. Parents and caregivers are also being urged to observe children for symptoms, encourage handwashing, and keep sick children at home to minimize further spread.
“Our goal is to ensure the health and safety of emaSwati, especially our little ones. We are asking the public to remain calm and practice simple preventative steps while we finalize our investigations,” said Ministry Communications Officer Nsindiso Tsabedze.
As Eswatini’s healthcare system responds with speed and transparency, the country continues to showcase its commitment to public wellness and community protection.
Regular updates will be shared by the Ministry as more details become available.
