MBABANE – The Ministry of Health has reassured the nation of its continued commitment to safeguarding public health following a recent, mild increase in COVID-19 cases detected through the country’s routine surveillance systems.

During the latest epidemiological reporting week, Eswatini recorded 10 COVID-19 positive cases, all identified in the Hhohho region. Importantly, every individual presented with mild symptoms and recovered well under home-based care. No hospitalisations were required, demonstrating the effectiveness of early detection and the resilience of the country’s healthcare response.

Health authorities emphasise that while the rise is being monitored closely, the situation remains manageable. Surveillance teams continue to track influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) across the four regions, with sentinel sites at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital, Mbabane Government Hospital, Hlatikulu Government Hospital and Good Shepherd Hospital routinely testing for COVID-19 and other respiratory pathogens.

Neighbouring countries have also reported slight increases in respiratory illnesses, reinforcing the importance of maintaining vigilance, especially for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, young children, individuals with chronic diseases, and persons living with HIV.

The Ministry has issued a renewed public health advisory encouraging preventive habits that have long proven effective. These include regular handwashing, proper ventilation in homes and workplaces, safe cough etiquette, avoiding touching the face, early medical consultation for flu-like symptoms, and the use of face masks in crowded public areas. Individuals who test positive are urged to isolate at home when appropriate and follow Ministry guidance.

Authorities highlight that COVID-19 remains present globally and advise emaSwati travelling within the SADC region and beyond to take precautionary measures. Early testing and reporting continue to play a key role in preventing severe disease and reducing community transmission.

The Ministry of Health reaffirms its dedication to keeping the nation informed and protected, promising further updates as new information arises. Through collective responsibility, adherence to health guidelines, and sustained awareness, Eswatini continues to stand strong in safeguarding the wellbeing of its people.
