MBABANE – The Health Promotion Unit educated the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) about mental health issues.
The day-long event took place at the Manzini Library.
According to information from the REPS, the event featured mental health experts, who educated and informed the police officers from all the Manzini regional stations about the importance of addressing mental health issues.
The engagement aimed at creating a platform for sharing best practices and increasing awareness around Mental Health Issues as well as to reduce mental health stigma through education, advocating for benefits for those members suffering from post-traumatic stress and other mental-ills within the service.
The Health Promotion Unit collaborated with NCD program (mental health wing) and Manzini region was picked for the noble initiative. Moreover, the Health Promotion Unit team revealed that the event was a de-escalation of the commemoration of Mental Health Day which is themed Mental Health in the Workplace.
During the event, police officers attended in numbers to learn more about mental health. The officers were also given a chance to share their opinions and experiences as far as mental health issues are concerned. The police officers thanked the health department for affording them such an important platform as most of them were currently dealing with similar issues at their work stations.
