MBABANE – A new era begins at Mbabane Highlanders.
Malawian coach Meck Mwase has been appointed as the head coach, assisted by Vusisizwe Mahlalela and former player Chicco Mayisa. Mwase, returning for a second stint with the Highlanders, takes over from Thembela Dlamini.
“Our new technical team to lead the club is now in place. Coach Meck Mwase returns to assume the role of Head Coach, supported by Vusisizwe Mahlalela. Chicco Mayisa, a former player of this esteemed club, also makes a return to Mbabane Highlanders as Goalkeeper Coach.
We extend our best wishes to them in their new roles and count on the unwavering support of the Mbabane Highlanders faithful to rally behind them as we strive to restore the team to its rightful position at the pinnacle of the league,” reads a statement from the club.
Mwase previously served as head coach during the 2015/16 season, leading the team to an impressive second-place finish, narrowly missing out on the league title by a mere point. This achievement remains the club’s best performance in the past decade.
Mwase is also a former coach of the Malawi National Team, having guided them to the Africa Cup of Nations, where they reached the Round of 16 in 2019.
