MBABANE – Hlane Royal Residence is abuzz with excitement as it prepares to host the second session of the Buganu Festival, a celebration of Eswatini’s rich culture and the cherished marula fruit.

After the spectacular festivities at Buhleni, which saw thousands of Emaswati and international visitors gather in vibrant unity, Hlane is set to elevate the experience with even more grandeur and tradition this weekend.

The Buganu Festival, a highlight in Eswatini’s cultural calendar, is a celebration of the marula season and a showcase of the nation’s heritage. At Buhleni, the first leg of the festival was a breathtaking spectacle. Members of the Lutsango regiment adorned in traditional attire performed captivating dances, their synchronized steps and spirited songs echoing across the royal grounds. Gifts of marula brew, lovingly prepared by the women of the kingdom, were presented to Their Majesties, symbolizing gratitude and unity. The joyous atmosphere, filled with laughter and the aroma of marula, was nothing short of magical.

Building on this success, Hlane promises an even more unforgettable experience. Tents have been pitched, and every corner of the royal residence has been meticulously prepared to welcome the thousands expected to attend. On Saturday, the Lutsango regiment from the Lubombo region and surrounding areas will once again take the stage, presenting their offerings and performing traditional dances with a renewed energy and grace. The sight of women dressed in colorful traditional attire, swaying in harmony to the beat of drums, is one that captures the essence of Eswatini’s cultural pride.

Adding to the excitement, His Majesty King Mswati III declared Monday a public holiday during the Buhleni ceremony, creating a long weekend for Emaswati to fully embrace the festivities without the rush of the workweek. This generous gesture has heightened anticipation, making the Hlane Buganu Festival an irresistible weekend retreat for locals and tourists alike.

As the sun sets over Hlane, casting a golden hue over the royal grounds, the stage is set for a weekend of dance, tradition, and the unmistakable spirit of Eswatini. If Buhleni was any indication, Hlane’s Buganu Festival is an event not to be missed—where culture comes alive in a symphony of colors, sounds, and heartfelt unity.
