MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini believes that if at least 50 percent of the 2023 to 2028 Government Policy Statement can be implemented, lives of Emaswati can be improved.
Dlamini said this yesterday (Thursday, October 17, 2028) in the House of Assembly during the debate of the policy statement. The premier said this in response to a number of Members of Parliament (MPs) who had punched holes in the statement, saying it was merely idealistic and, therefore, impractical.
However, the prime minister did not agree with his fellow MPs’ assertions. He told them that it was the statement encouraged Emaswati to do things differently because doing one and the same thing would not bring different results. He even borrowed a famous saying from a German-born theoretical physicist, the late Albert Einstein, who is widely held as one of the most influential scientists.
One of his famous saying is that it is insanity to do one and the same thing several times and expect a different result. However, it is important to emphasise that the premier did not use the word ‘insanity’ when making his submissions. But he did highlight that it was time for Emaswati to think differently and aim high so that the results could be different.
The premier said that was what the policy statement sought to do – to make Emaswati thing differently, aim high and believe in themselves so that they could achieve the ambitious goals set by the statement. That was when Dlamini stated that if 50 percent of the statement could be achieved, the lives of the people of this country could change. He further asked the MPs, without expecting a response there and then, to give him an alternative to the policy statement.
