MBABANE – Newly-appointed members of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Justice Nxumalo and Charity Simelane have promised to work diligently in their new roles.

Nxumalo and Simelane are part of His Majesty King Mswati III’s appointees to the JSC. The king also appointed 31 others to various Emabandla, including the Border Restoration Committee, Royal Commission, Liqoqo, Senate, Human Rights Commission and others.

Speaking to this publication, Nxumalo said he was grateful to the king for having seen that he had the ability to work as a member of the JSC. He highlighted the importance of the JSC, stating that this was a commission meant to ensure that the judiciary of the country was functional. According to Nxumalo, a functional judiciary would be good for the country, as it was going to boost investor confidence.

Nxumalo said investor confidence would mean that investors would come to Eswatini to establish their businesses in the country, while opening job opportunities for Emaswati. He said investors would want to invest in a country whose courts were efficient and effective in delivering their services. The businessman said even though his new task would be a challenge, he was ready to face that challenge and work diligently, working cooperatively with those he was appointed with.

Simelane, on the other hand, also hailed His Majesty the King for having seen that she could make a positive contribution to the JSC. “I am humbled to be appointed into the JSC and to serve the country. It is a great honour. I will serve diligently and with integrity. Bayethe wena Waphakathi,” Simelane said.

The JSC is provided for on Sections 159, 160, and 161 of the Constitution of Eswatini, as a commission generally responsible for advising the king on matters pertaining to the judiciary and the improvement of the conditions of service of the members and other workers of the judiciary of Eswatini.
