MBABANE – After being out of operation for nearly four years, the newly rebuilt KaMfishane Clinic, Under Khubutha Inkhundla at Shiselweni has finally opened its doors to the community, bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents of surrounding areas.

The clinic began operating normally on Monday, July 21, 2025. While the official handover by a full panel of government officials is still pending and the date is yet to be communicated, the facility has been granted permission for immediate use by the local community.

The reconstruction of the clinic began on August 1, 2023, and has since reached completion.

The clinic was destroyed by fire in 2021. The blaze was reportedly caused by an electrical fault during the servicing of a refrigerator, as confirmed by the Operational Support Services Unit (OSSU), which ruled out any link to the 2021 unrest incidents where several properties were vandalised or torched.

According to Sabelo Dlamini, Bucopho of kaMfishane under Khubutha Inkhundla, the new Mfishane Clinic now offers a range of services, including dental care, pharmacy, tuberculosis (TB) screening, HIV testing and counselling, and many services.

It is expected to service several surrounding communities such as Lugedzeni, kaMfishane, kaDludlu, Ngobolweni, Mbhoke, and Zezile.

Local elders have welcomed the reopening with joy and gratitude. “We used to walk long distances to get treatment, especially during emergencies. This clinic will save lives,” said a resident of Lugedzeni.

The clinic’s reopening is seen as a major milestone in strengthening primary healthcare delivery in rural Eswatini, and the community now looks forward to the official launch to cement its full integration into the national health system.
