MBABANE- Athletics Eswatini is thrilled to announce exciting progress in their Kids’ Athletics Project, a dynamic initiative aimed at nurturing young athletic talent across the country. This innovative programme is designed to introduce children to the world of athletics through schools and community centres, fostering a strong foundation for future sports champions.
The project targets engagement with 20 schools and 5 community centres nationwide, alongside the training of 30 new coaches and volunteers. These trained personnel will play a vital role in supporting grassroots athletics development, ensuring that young athletes receive quality guidance and encouragement from the outset. The official launch is set for 21 May 2025, with 20 eager children from the Lobamba area ready to take part. The venue for this landmark event is yet to be confirmed.
Athletics Eswatini has already made significant strides with activation events successfully held in Maseyisini and Magele. Upcoming activation events are scheduled for Siphofaneni on 24 May and Siteki Town on 7 June. Further events will take place in Shiselweni II, Piggs Peak, Matsanjeni North, and Mhlambanyatsi, continuing to expand the reach of the project.
A key highlight on the horizon is the Training Weekend planned for 21–22 June 2025. According to the Athletics Eswatini page this intensive session will provide essential skills and knowledge to coaches and volunteers, empowering them to deliver impactful athletics programmes to young participants.
Athletics Eswatini extends heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders including schools, churches, SOS Children’s Villages, municipalities, and government departments for their unwavering support. Their collaboration is crucial in building a sustainable athletics culture from the grassroots level.
