MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has congratulated new Ghana President John Dramani Mahama on his election victory.

Through Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, His Majesty the King expressed hope that under the new president, Ghana would continue striving for peace and stability in Ghana and the international community.

“On behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government, and the People of the Kingdom of Eswatini, we extend our congratulations to H.E President John Dramani Mahama, on his election as President of the Republic of Ghana,” Dlamini said.

The prime minister continued to state that the Kingdom of Eswatini was hopeful that, under his leadership, the Republic of Ghana would continue to thrive, advancing peace, stability, and sustainable development. “His Excellency (HE) Mahama’s election stands as a testament to the strength of Ghana’s democracy and the trust and confidence that the people of Ghana have placed in him,” he said.

Dlamini said that as Eswatini celebrated this significant occasion, the Eswatini nation expressed hope that the warm relations between the two nations would deepen, bringing mutual benefits to the natives of both countries. “We wish the People of Ghana continued prosperity and success under His Excellency’s esteemed leadership,” Dlamini concluded.

According to Wikipedia, general elections were held in Ghana on December 7, 2024, to elect the president and members of Parliament. Then-incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo, having completed his constitutional term limits, was ineligible for re-election.

The National Democratic Congress candidate, former President John Mahama, won a majority in the first round, enough to win without a runoff. Ruling New Patriotic Party candidate Mahamudu Bawumia conceded defeat on election night.

According to the BBC, the 65-year-old led Ghana from 2012 to 2017 and is one of the most experienced politicians in the West African country. He has served at all levels of office, as an MP, deputy minister, minister, vice-president and president. Long before it became a career, politics played a significant role in Mahama’s childhood. When Mahama was just seven, his father, a Government minister, was jailed during a military coup and later went into exile.
