MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171.

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini conveyed these messages on behalf of Their Majesties and the entire nation of Eswatini.

Air India Flight 171 tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport in India while en route to London Gatwick Airport. The incident resulted in a devastating loss of life, with at least 269 fatalities, including 241 passengers and 12 crew members onboard, as well as 28 people on the ground.

– Condolence Message: “On behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government, and the People of the Kingdom of Eswatini, we express our heartfelt condolences to the Government and the People of India on this tragic loss.”

– Flight Details: Air India Flight 171 was operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The crash occurred at approximately 1:38 p.m. IST, just 30 seconds after takeoff, crashing into a hostel block of B. J. Medical College in the Meghaninagar neighborhood of Ahmedabad.

– Survivor: Miraculously, one passenger is reported to have survived the crash, marking this as the first fatal crash and hull loss involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

This incident not only represents a significant loss for the families affected but also an impact on the broader communities involved, as nations come together in mourning and support.
