MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III wants nothing short of values such as honesty and loyalty from the new correctional officers, who passed out today.
The King said this today (Friday, August 2, 2024) when he commissioned the new correctional officers, who will now be stationed in various correctional centres around the country. This was during the Correctional Services Day and the 16th pass-out parade of the new officers.
The king said the officers who graduated from the parade today carried the hopes of the nation and it was their job to live up to the expectations set upon them. “Professional correctional officers must constantly demonstrate attributes such as honesty, respect, discipline, integrity, and loyalty if they are to be deemed extraordinary. Implementing a productive work ethic is critical. It is essential to remember that experience is the best teacher, therefore learn from those who came before you,” the King said.
He told the officers that they would be expected you to be team members at each of the several workstations they would be posted to. He said it was good that they had successfully completed the curriculum at the Correctional Services Staff College and taken the oath of service.
“It gives me great pleasure to commission you as fully-fledged correctional officers today. This is a calling that requires you to be on duty around the clock, seven days a week, and to treat inmates and all citizens in the same manner, regardless of their age, gender, status or religious affiliation. Make sure that the safety of Emaswati is always your top priority and that you set an example for others to follow in your respective communities,” he said.
