BUHLENI — His Majesty King Mswati III has embarked on a transformative journey across the northern Hhohho region, unveiling a series of development projects that give emphasis to his unwavering commitment to economic empowerment and sustainable growth for Emaswati.

Since his arrival for the Buhleni Buganu Festival, the King has visited several key sites, each marking a significant stride towards enhancing infrastructure, energy production, agriculture, and tourism in the Kingdom.

This series of visits not only highlights His Majesty’s vision for a self-sufficient Eswatini but also reflects a hands-on approach to leadership that directly addresses the needs of local communities.

February 26, 2025: Buhleni Fun City & Cooperative Empowerment

His Majesty King Mswati III commenced his developmental tour with a visit to Buhleni Fun City to assess the progress of this pivotal project. Set to be completed within the next 8 to 12 months, the facility is expected to significantly boost tourism and hospitality in the region. The King emphasized the need for investments that not only generate revenue but also create sustainable employment for Emaswati.

On the same day, the King handed over projects worth E15 million to 12 cooperatives under Madlangempisi Inkhundla, funded by the Regional Development Fund (RDF). These projects, which include trucks, tractors, and animal feed, are set to benefit 1,600 Emaswati. His Majesty praised the cooperatives for their professionalism and efficiency, highlighting one that generates E44 million in annual dividends. Additionally, the King pledged to build 10 decent homes for the elderly in Madlangempisi, as part of a long-term plan to improve living standards across the country.

March 1, 2025: Maguga Hydropower Expansion Project

Continuing his development tour, His Majesty commissioned the Maguga Hydropower Expansion Project, which will enhance the power station’s capacity by 10MW, raising it to 30MW. During the tour, he was briefed on other potential projects, including a proposed power station at Ngwemphisi with a capacity of 120MW. The King also addressed infrastructure concerns, urging urgent repairs for the Maguga Road—a call that was promptly acknowledged by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini.

March 3, 2025: Driekoppies Dam—A Hub for Economic Growth

His Majesty’s tour extended to the Driekoppies Dam, where he encouraged local communities to leverage the dam’s vast resources. He outlined opportunities in fish farming, crocodile leather production, agriculture, agro-processing, and tourism as key sectors that could drive economic growth and create job opportunities for Emaswati. The dam, managed by the Komati Basin Water Authority (KOBWA), represents a cornerstone of regional water management and economic potential.

March 3, 2025: Mkhuzweni Technical Centre—Empowering Youth Through Sports

His Majesty also visited the E35 million Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, a FIFA-supported initiative implemented by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA). This project aligns with the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Youth Affairs’ vision to expand sporting infrastructure across all regions. The King’s support for this project highlights his commitment to youth development and the role of sports in fostering unity and progress within communities.
