MBABANE – Malkerns’ new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cinisela Dlamini has promised to improve the town’s agricultural sector, as the town has been gazette to continue as an agricultural one.

Dlamini said this today in an interview with journalists, after he was introduced to Minister of Housing and Urban Development Apollo Maphalala. The introduction was done today at Eswatini Housing Board offices in Mbabane. He was introduced by Malkerns Town Council Mayor Bongani Mabuza, who was accompanied by other councillors from the town’s eight wards.

Speaking during the interview, Dlamini said Malkerns was gazette by Government as an agricultural town. Therefore, he wanted to improve the agricultural sector of the town. He said he also wanted to form a mutually beneficial relationship with the ratepayers of the town. The ratepayers could be residents, property owners and business people of the town.

The minister, during his address, congratulated Dlamini for having been given this position. Maphalala pleaded with Dlamini to work in improving the urban area. The minister said people in Eswatini were slowly adopting the urban lifestyle, and that meant Dlamini had to work hard in improving the town because in future, it would have to accommodate even more people.

Maphalala also mentioned that Dlamini should work hard to ensure that Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 11 was realised. This goal talked about the making cities accommodative, safe and sustainable. As the SDGs have to realised by 2030, this means Malkerns should also realise SDG 11 by 2030. The minister further pleaded with Dlamini to deal with corruption because people specifically out for corruption to be eliminated during Sibaya.

What is interesting is that Dlamini replaces Maphalala, who relinquished the position of being Malkerns Town Council CEO after he won the elections last year, as Kukhanyeni Member of Parliament (MP). He was subsequently appointed by His Majesty King Mswati III as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
