MBABANE – Young Emaswati with a passion for leadership and academic excellence now have a chance to apply for the prestigious Mandela Rhodes Scholarship, which is open for the Class of 2026.
This world-class scholarship was established in 2003 through a partnership between the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the Rhodes Trust to nurture exceptional young African leaders. It provides full financial support for postgraduate studies at a South African university while offering an intensive leadership development programme that equips scholars with the skills to drive transformation.
The scholarship is built on four key pillars:

What’s covered?
- Full tuition fees for a one-year Honours degree or a two-year Master’s degree at a recognised South African university.
- Financial support for registration fees, study materials, research, medical aid, accommodation, and meals.
- A compulsory Leadership Development Programme (one or two years, depending on your course), delivered primarily through immersive, week-long workshops with your fellow Mandela Rhodes Scholars.
- Access to a mentorship programme and a powerful network of young leaders from across Africa.
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship is open to:
* Young African citizens, including Emaswati, aged 19-29
* Those that have completed or are in their final year of an undergraduate degree with at least 70% or upper second-class honours equivalent
* Individuals with proven leadership potential and a strong commitment to making a positive impact in their communities
