MBABANE – It’s a victory for Manzini Wanderers, as the club has officially retained its spot in the MTN Premier League following the dismissal of Moneni Pirates’ appeal by the Supreme Court on Thursday morning.

This ruling solidifies Wanderers’ elite league status, marking the final resolution of a legal battle that originated from a protest concerning international player Jimmoh Moses from Denver Sundowns.

Legal Victory for Wanderers

The case initially saw Manzini Wanderers challenge a decision by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee and Appeal Board, which had ruled against them. However, in a landmark ruling last year, High Court Judge Mumsy Dlamini overturned the decision, allowing Wanderers to remain in the top tier of Eswatini football.

Moneni Pirates, feeling aggrieved by the ruling, opted to appeal—but their case has now been dismissed, cementing Wanderers’ position in the league.

What’s Next for the Teams?

With the case now settled, Denver Sundowns has been relegated to the MTN National First Division, while Moneni Pirates remain in the Premier League despite their unsuccessful legal challenge.

Bongani “Bhanyanza” Mdluli, a representative of Moneni Pirates, stated that the club is now waiting for guidance from the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) regarding the next steps following the ruling.

For Manzini Wanderers and their supporters, this decision brings relief and renewed focus on the current league campaign. As one of Eswatini’s most storied football clubs, Wanderers can now shift their attention to competing at the highest level without any lingering legal uncertainties.

This ruling also sets an important precedent for football governance and dispute resolution in the country, ensuring fairness and integrity within the sport.
