MBABANE MAYOR THULANI MKHONTO COMMENDS STUDENTS IN SCHOOL CULTURE COMPETITION

MBABANE – In a vibrant display of cultural heritage, students from various schools in Mbabane gathered for a school culture competition, an event that has captured the heart of Municipal Council Mayor Thulani Mkhonto. The mayor expressed his pride in the rich cultural displays showcased by the students, highlighting their love for their heritage and the immense talent on display.

“It is truly challenging to select a winner when every performance is a testament to the depth of our culture,” Mayor Mkhonto noted. “In essence, we have all emerged victorious because we are celebrating our shared heritage.”

Emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural traditions, Mayor Mkhonto underscored the significance of initiatives like this competition. He believes that His Majesty King Mswati III would also appreciate the efforts of the Municipal Council in fostering cultural preservation. “Our culture is the backbone of our identity, and it is our duty to ensure its continuation for future generations,” he added.

The event not only celebrated the diversity of Eswatini’s cultural landscape but also served as a reminder of the community’s commitment to preserving its traditions. As the students showcased their talents, they reinforced the importance of cultural heritage in modern society. Mayor Mkhonto’s support for such initiatives reflects the municipality’s dedication to promoting cultural awareness and appreciation among the youth.

13 SCHOOLS VIE FOR TROPHIES AND CASH PRIZES AT PRINCE OF WALES STADIUM

MBABANE – 13 schools gathered at the prestigious Prince of Wales Stadium to compete in a highly anticipated cultural competition.

The event organized by the Municipal council of Mbabane aimed to promote and preserve the Swazi culture to urban schools which seems to be little exposed to the Swazi culture. The schools include Fonteyn primary and high school, Annadale, SOS, The Little School, MDS primary and high school, Mangwaneni, Mqolo, Woodlands, Mbabane SAGM,  St Marks high school, and Sethembiso Sebunye Baha’i High School.

The event featured a diverse range of cultural performances that includes sibhaca, ummiso, and ingadla. Each school had the opportunity to present its unique cultural heritage, captivating the audience with their creativity and skills. The event was designed to enforce sense of community and appreciation for cultural diversity among participating schools.

Prizes and Recognition

The winning schools were awarded a trophies and cash prizes ranging from E 1000, E1500, E2000, E2500 on each category.  Fonteyn primary and high school shine as they managed to maintain position two on ummiso and they won a trophy and E1500, on sibhaca high school boys got position two and they won E2500 and a trophy, and the primary maintained position three, they went home with a trophy and E1000. On the ingadla category Mqolo high school-maintained position one and went home with a trophy and E 2000, followed by St Marks both primary and high who went away with trophies and cash prizes amounting to E 2500 on high school and E 1000.  On ummiso SOS high school-maintained position two getting away with a trophy and E2000, Mangwaneni primary securing position two and got E 1000.

On the other hand, sibhaca also performed at their level best. Position one was secured by Fonteyn getting away with a trophy and E2500, followed by Setsembiso sebunye Baha’i high school securing position two and got E 2000 and lastly, Fonteyn primary positioned number three and getting away with atrophy and E1000.

The competition at the Prince of Wales marked a significant milestone in promoting cultural exchange and understanding among school.
