MENZI ‘MAGAWUGAWU’SIMELANE TO RETIRE AT MONENI PIRATES

MBABANE – Menzi ‘Magawugawu’ Simelane, a stalwart of the Moneni Pirates, is celebrating a remarkable milestone in his football career with over 16 years of service to the team and 20 years of experience in the MTN Premier League.

After reaching this milestone, Simelane who also played for Mbabane Swallows at his younger age, declared that he will retire at Moneni Pirates and it is the last team to play for in the elite.  Simelane is now among the oldest players in the Premier League.

His side that he captain take son Manzini Sea Birds this evening in the MTN Premier League game at Mavuso Sports Centre, kick-off 7:30pm.

Despite his age, Simelane has no plans to leave Moneni Pirates, and he hopes to retire with the team he has grown to love.

“Moneni Pirates has been my home for so long, and I don’t see myself leaving anytime soon. I am looking forward to retiring here, and I hope to end my career on a high note with this club,” he said.

Simelane’s dedication and commitment to Moneni Pirates are a testament to his passion for the sport and his love for the club. With a career spanning over two decades, he has seen it all, from the highs and lows of the game. Yet, he remains focused and driven, inspiring his teammates with his experience and leadership.

He led the team to their first Ingwenyama Cup finals that they ended up losing 0-1 to Royal Leopard on April 6, 2025 vat Somhlolo National Stadium.

As he looks to the future, he knows that his time at the club will come to an end eventually, but for now, he is content to be a part of the team and contribute to their success.

The match against Manzini Seabirds promises to be an exciting encounter, with Simelane and his teammates eager to put on a show. As the veteran player takes to the pitch, he will be carrying the hopes and dreams of his fans, and he will be determined to give it his all in what could be his final chapter with Moneni Pirates.
