MBABANE – Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Trade, Mancoba Khumalo has taken a significant step in reinforcing public trust and promoting government accountability by declaring his assets to the Commission of Human Rights and Public Administration/Integrity.
This move aligns with Section 241 of the Constitution of Eswatini, which requires all public office holders to submit a written declaration of their properties, assets, benefits, and liabilities, whether directly or indirectly owned.
The declaration comes at a time when transparency in public office is paramount for curbing corruption and strengthening institutional trust. By complying with constitutional obligations, Minister Khumalo has set an important precedent for public officials, demonstrating a strong commitment to ethical governance.
Promoting Transparency and Trust
Minister Khumalo’s action reflects the broader governmental push to prevent corruption and ensure that leaders prioritize the interests of the citizens. By opening his financial records for scrutiny, Khumalo sends a clear message: public service is a position of trust, not personal gain. Such declarations are vital for ensuring public confidence in government institutions.
While fostering accountability, Minister Khumalo has also been recognized for his tireless efforts to drive economic development and industrial competitiveness in Eswatini. Recently, PENRESA, a global consultancy that highlights development achievements, acknowledged Khumalo for his role in advancing trade, investment, and job creation initiatives. His leadership has been pivotal in positioning Eswatini as a competitive player in regional and international markets.
One of the most notable achievements under Khumalo’s stewardship includes the establishment of a Free Trade Zone at King Mswati III International Airport. This project, which encompasses a gold refinery, a bank, a vault, and a VIP lounge, aims to attract foreign investment, boost exports, and create employment opportunities. It symbolizes a bold step toward economic diversification and modernization.
Minister Khumalo’s compliance with asset declaration laws and his achievements in driving economic reforms highlight the kind of leadership Eswatini needs, one that combines accountability with visionary economic development. His proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to building a transparent, corruption-free governance system while laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.
As the Kingdom of Eswatini looks to recover from economic challenges and strengthen its global presence, Minister Khumalo’s example serves as both a beacon of integrity and a blueprint for economic success.
