MBABANE – The Montigny Investments has rolled out a fire awareness programme to promote fire safety among young learners in schools situated near its plantations.

The company is guided by the siSwati cultural value of educating children early while their minds are most receptive, it  launched the initiative to equip learners with knowledge on fire hazards and safe practices especially critical during the dry winter season.

The Montigny’s community liaison officers visited Osuthu Methodist Primary and High School, as well as Sikanye High School. These institutions, located near the company’s forest operations, welcomed the officers who conducted interactive fire safety sessions.

The programme received an overwhelmingly positive response, with teachers and learners engaging actively through questions and discussions.

As part of the awareness campaign, Montigny distributed promotional materials to the learners as a token of appreciation for their participation. During the sessions, students were cautioned about the dangers of careless fire use, particularly given the dry vegetation and strong seasonal winds that increase the risk of wildfires.

The company has introduced a reward of E50 for each beehive identified and safely removed by our skilled team.

Head teachers from the visited schools have acknowledged the value of the initiative, committing to continuously remind their students about fire safety throughout the winter months.

The learners were also introduced to Montigny’s toll-free free emergency number 334.
