MBABANE – A new group of Engineering In Action (EIA) students have arrived in Eswatini to continue the construction of the suspended footbridges known locally as ‘tebe-tebe.’
The Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Thabsile Mlangeni welcomed 11 students on Monday (July 8, 2024) at the Ministry’s offices. These students hail from The Oracle State University, University College London and the University of Western Ontario.
PS Mlangeni expressed her gratitude to the EIA group for their contribution to the development of Emaswati. She emphasized the importance of these projects in remote areas of the country where access to schools and hospitals is often hindered by flooded rivers.
“Emaswati’s lives are saved through the footbridges. It is also worth to note that these footbridges can last up to 50 years without repair,” Mlangeni stated.
These students will be in the country for eight weeks and they will be assisting in the construction of a suspended footbridge in Ngudzeni.
