MBABANE – The globally acclaimed MTN Bushfire Festival, renowned for its vibrant arts and cultural showcases, is set to uphold its long-standing commitment to sustainability.
With trader applications closing on Friday, 31st January 2025, the festival calls on vendors to align with its principles of social and environmental responsibility for a stronger chance of selection.
Online Applications Only
Simon Dawson, the MTN Bushfire Communications Officer, emphasized that applications can only be submitted online through the official website (bush-fire.com/festival). He noted that alternative submission methods will not be accepted. The final list of selected traders will be announced on 28th February 2025, and only successful applicants will be contacted.
A Legacy of Responsible Practices
“MTN Bushfire has championed socially and environmentally sustainable practices since its inception in 2007,” Dawson highlighted.
The festival’s efforts have resulted in significant economic benefits, with traders experiencing a remarkable increase in sales, from E3.5 million in 2022 to E9.5 million in 2024.
The festival’s policies promote inclusivity and ethical trade, offering a platform for high-quality, locally made products from Southern Africa. Priority is given to small businesses with a focus on social and environmental impact.
Sustainability at the Core
MTN Bushfire’s sustainability vision is driven by the #BRINGYOURFIRE and #GREENYOURFIRE initiatives, which encourage community engagement and environmental stewardship. These efforts are guided by the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework, which integrates sustainability into every aspect of the festival.
Environmental Initiatives
The festival requires vendors to adopt eco-friendly practices, including the use of upcycled or recyclable materials. Biodegradable packaging is mandatory, complemented by on-site composting to enhance landscaping. Additional efforts target energy efficiency, water conservation, and effective waste management.
Empowering Social Impact
Traders with strong socio-environmental values, especially those uplifting women, youth, and local communities, receive priority. Transparency in sourcing, cultural respect, and initiatives that promote employee growth, such as training and profit-sharing, are highly valued.
Fostering Business Growth
“MTN Bushfire’s incubator and training programs equip traders, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with tools for international market success,” Dawson explained. These programs reinforce ESG principles, nurturing entrepreneurship and aligning businesses with the festival’s ethos.
A Prime Opportunity
The festival’s sustainable model has cultivated deep loyalty among attendees, with the average participant attending four editions. This loyalty translates to repeat business opportunities for traders, making MTN Bushfire a lucrative platform for regional entrepreneurs.
Aspiring traders are urged to seize this opportunity to join a festival that celebrates creativity, diversity, and sustainability. For further inquiries, vendors can contact the festival team at traders@bush-fire.com.
Looking Ahead
MTN Bushfire 2025 is poised to be another landmark event, continuing its legacy of responsible tourism and cultural excellence.
