MALKERNS – Nomphumelelo Dlamini, Board Chair of MTN Eswatini, today delivered a heartfelt address at the launch of the annual “21 Days of Y’ello Care” initiative, underscoring the program’s profound significance for both the company and the communities it serves. Her remarks highlighted the enduring spirit of community, the power of digital transformation, and the importance of strategic partnerships.
“For me personally, the Y’ello Care Programme brings back fond memories from my days as an MTNer,” Ms. Dlamini shared, reminiscing about “donning the yellow shirt and stepping out into our communities with purpose, passion, and pride.”
She emphasized that Y’ello Care is more than just a program; it’s a movement a tangible expression of MTN’s belief in the Siswati proverb, “Umuntfu ngumuntfu ngebantfu” (We are who we are because of the people around us). This principle, she noted, is at the heart of MTN’s shared value approach, fostering growth alongside the communities it serves.
The theme for this year’s campaign, “Connecting at the Roots through Digital Platforms,” was described by Dlamini as both “timely and profound.” It serves as a vital reminder that while pursuing innovation and digital solutions, MTN must remain grounded in the real needs of its people.
MTN Eswatini is particularly proud of its partnership with the Ministry of ICT in advancing the “Government in Your Hand” Strategy. The development and launch of the Government in Your Hand App, built by local developers, stands as a powerful testament to Eswatini’s remarkable progress. “We are no longer mere consumers of technology, we are contributors, creators, and change-makers,” Dlamini affirmed, painting a vision of “the Eswatini we envision – connected, capable, and confident.”
She reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to supporting the government in the digitalization of public services, recognizing it as a key enabler for decentralization and inclusive development.
While this year’s Y’ello Care activities emphasize the power of digital platforms, Dlamini also acknowledged the fundamental importance of basic infrastructure, such as access to potable water and roads. This balanced approach, she explained, reflects MTN’s commitment to addressing both the immediate and long-term needs of its communities.
She extended heartfelt appreciation to all partners whose collaboration and dedication make this work possible. “Together, we are stronger, and together, we are making a difference,” she stated.
Dlamini issued a challenge to all MTNers and partners: “Let us give this our all with excellence, passion, and heart. Let us go the extra mile so that we reclaim the MTN Group President and CEO’s Grand Prize, and reinvest that prize back into our communities where it matters most.” This rallying cry encapsulates the deep-seated commitment to making a tangible, lasting impact across Eswatini.
