MBABANE – Who says you need a corporate office to be a creative powerhouse? Millicent Johnston—better known as Milly—has flipped the script on success, going from graphic design grad to Mbabane’s reigning queen of nail art and glam.
Once stuck in the job hunt hustle, Milly traded resumes for rhinestones, opening Milly’s Beauty Studio, now one of the capital’s trendiest spots for nails, makeup, and pure self-care vibes. Her secret? A killer combo of talent, tenacity, and TikTok.
“I realised I could create my own lane,” Milly says, sitting confidently in her chic studio. “With nails, I can still design, tell stories, and make people feel beautiful.”
Her degree from Limkokwing University of Technology laid the groundwork—but her bold pivot into beauty gave her purpose. From fine-line floral to gemstone glam, Milly’s nail designs are more than polish; they’re wearable art.
Running a business solo wasn’t always pretty. She juggled budgeting, branding, and building a client list from scratch. But she hustled hard, turning every challenge into a lesson. “It was scary,” she admits, “but worth it. You grow fast when it’s all on you.”
Social media became her runway. Instagram and TikTok gave Milly a stage to showcase her flair and attract a growing fan base. Now, her work is constantly booked—and frequently re-shared.
But her studio isn’t just about looks—it’s a whole experience. “I want people to leave feeling pampered and powerful,” she smiles. And with plans to grow her team and mentor other young beauty lovers, Milly’s impact is only beginning.
Her advice to dreamers is- “Take the leap. Bet on yourself.” And just like that—she’s not only painting nails, she’s paving paths.
