MBABANE – NAMBoard’s Board of Directors, led by CEO Bhekizwe Maziya, concluded a two-day visit to farmers in the Lubombo Region, focusing on empowering farmers and reinforcing sustainable agricultural practices.

The visits, spanning Lomahasha, Mkhutjana, Big Bend, and Lavumisa, underscored NAMBoard’s commitment to fostering closer collaboration with farmers and addressing their needs.

On the second day, the delegation visited sites in Lavumisa and Big Bend, engaging directly with contracted farmers. CEO Maziya emphasized the importance of these interactions.

“For NAMBoard to deliver on its mandate, we must stay connected to the people who drive our agricultural sector forward. These visits are not just symbolic; they are the foundation for actionable change,” he said.

Board members reiterated their dedication to strengthening market access and resource availability for farmers.
“We are here to listen and understand the unique challenges you face. This direct engagement allows us to tailor our support and develop strategies that work for everyone involved,” said one director during the visit to Lavumisa.

The farmers welcomed the leadership’s presence, seizing the opportunity to highlight their experiences and share concerns.

“We face several hurdles, especially with irrigation and access to affordable farming inputs,” said Sipho Mdluli, a farmer from Lavumisa. “Seeing NAMBoard management here shows they care and are serious about helping us overcome these issues.”

Nomsa Shongwe, a farmer from Big Bend, praised the dialogue, emphasizing the need for expanded market opportunities.

“It’s encouraging to have these discussions. We produce high-quality crops, but accessing bigger markets can be a challenge. I believe NAMBoard’s involvement can make a real difference in creating more opportunities for us.”

CEO Maziya responded by reaffirming NAMBoard’s commitment to unlocking market access.

“We recognize the hard work you put into your farms, and we are determined to ensure your efforts translate into greater profitability. Expanding market access is a priority for NAMBoard, and we are exploring innovative ways to connect farmers to more lucrative markets,” he said.

The visits also highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable farming practices.

“As we grow the sector, we must also protect our resources. Sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity,” one director remarked during the Lavumisa engagement.

Farmers who have embraced innovative techniques were also celebrated. CEO Maziya commended their efforts.

“It’s inspiring to see farmers incorporating new methods to increase productivity. Together, with determination and collaboration, we can make Eswatini’s agricultural sector a model of resilience and innovation.”

NAMBoard has pledged to continue these engagements, ensuring a transparent, inclusive approach to farmer development. The leadership affirmed that insights gained from the Lubombo Region visits would inform future decisions and policies, reinforcing NAMBoard’s mission to cultivate a thriving agricultural sector.

“Our journey doesn’t end here,” concluded Maziya. “This is just the beginning of deeper partnerships and stronger collaborations with our farmers. Together, we will overcome challenges and build a sustainable future for agriculture in Eswatini.”
