SIPHOFANENI- Breaking barriers in Eswatini’s grooming scene, Natalie Smith is redefining beauty, leadership, and community through her pioneering venture, The Godfather Eswatini.

In the heart of Siphofaneni, a small rural town in Eswatini, a bold dream was born. This dream has now blossomed into a thriving grooming and lifestyle hub led by 28-year-old entrepreneur Smith. As a woman forging her path in an industry traditionally dominated by men, she is not just changing the face of grooming in Eswatini but also reshaping narratives around leadership, style and community.

“I knew I had to change the narrative,” reflects Smith on her journey from a young girl in Siphofaneni to a trailblazing businesswoman. Driven by a passion for culture, individuality, and creativity, she launched her establishment — it’s not just as a barbershop, but as a bold statement.

For Smith, grooming is just the beginning. “My personal view on one-stop shops is the convenience,” she explains. “But in a broader context, this isn’t just a grooming spot; it’s a creative hub, a safe space, and a statement all in one.” It merges haircare with culture, confidence, and connection, creating a vibrant space where bold looks meet bold voices.

Her journey has been anything but easy. Like many first-generation entrepreneurs, Smith entered the business world with a vision but without a clear roadmap. “One of my biggest challenges was a lack of information,” she admits. “I didn’t know the procedures for registering a company, how to manage proper bookkeeping, or even what compliance looked like in Eswatini.” With no mentor to guide her, she learned through trial and error. Although mistakes were made, they sharpened her resilience, creativity and leadership.

This tenacity didn’t just fuel her own success; it ignited opportunities for others as well. Smith’s team now consists of 10 talented Eswatini youth each playing a crucial role in the brand’s development. “Skills matter, but energy, attitude, and alignment with our values matter even more,” she asserts. “We’re a family, and everyone on the team contributes to the vibe and vision.”

Her establishment is more than just a business; it’s a culture shift. “I didn’t step into this role to play it safe. I came to shift the culture,” Smith declares. In an industry often marred by favoritism and exclusion, Smith chose not to wait for approval. “At first, it was frustrating,” she shares. “But then I realized I didn’t need to fight to get into anyone else’s circle. I could build my own.”

Today her business venture  stands as a community—a place where every client is welcomed with respect, warmth, and dignity. “Our space is warm, judgment-free, and affirming, no matter your background, identity, or experience,” Smith explains. Safety, both physical and emotional, is at the heart of every service they offer.

What truly sets it apart is its authenticity. “It’s not just our services; it’s our style. We’re a community,” Smith emphasizes. “Every appointment is a chance to connect, uplift, and empower.”

With a firm belief in self-leadership, Smith has become an icon for aspiring entrepreneurs across Eswatini. Her message is clear: “You don’t have to ask for permission to lead. The moment you stop waiting for approval, that’s when you start making real impact.”
