MBABANE – Shiselweni Super League side Nkwene Sundowns are proving that underdogs can strike it rich in the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup.
With an impressive run so far, they have already secured E50 000 in prize money and show no signs of slowing down.
Nkwene Sundowns have guaranteed E30 000 as the best-performing regional team, being the only side to reach the last 16 stages of the tournament. Additionally, they have secured approximately E17 000 for making it to the Regional semi-finals, with the potential to win the E42 500 top prize for the regional tournament.
The team’s journey to glory began with a stunning 6-2 victory over MTN Premier League side Sidvwashini United in the last 32 stage at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. Next, they face a formidable opponent, Manzini Sea Birds, in the last 16 stages of the richest tournament in Eswatini, following Monday’s draw.
Other regional teams, including Emajukujuku, Ubombo Flyers, and Nsenga Comrades, were knocked out in the last 32, leaving Nkwene Sundowns as the sole representatives from the Shiselweni Region.
